Tools Essential for Wall Worm Model Tools

SMD Exporters

The SMD Exporter is required to export models from 3ds Max to Source. Wall Worm Model Tools does gave an internal SMD Exporter, but it also works with other SMD Exporters. You can use either of the following SMD Exporters:

Collision Hull Generator

The current version of WWMT does have a simple collision hull generator (called Quick Hull), but the developer of Convexity is building a more advanced one that WWMT will utilize. You'll need Convexity to use that tool. You can get it here: Maple 3D.

Important Tools for Source Modeling

  • GUIStudioMDL is a graphical user interface for compiling QCs into models. It can control more than WWMT and does not need 3ds Max to run. You may find this tool essential if there are things you need to do that WWMT does not do. It is also made by Jed: GUIStudioMDL
  • VTFEdit is a tool to make VTF files (the Valve texture format) and VMTs (material files). It is much more robust than the WWMT texture exporter. You may find that it is useful to open the VTF & VMT files WWMT makes and tweak them with VTFEdit: not suprisingly, this tool's backbone was co-authored by Jed (again!) and Nem: VTFEdit

Modeling Resources

  • Wunderboy - Jed's Website... bookmark it. Donate to his cause. And tell him Shawn sent you! (There are a couple features I'm hoping he'll add to the SMD Exporter...)
  • VDC QC Commands - list of commands you can use in your QCs (more than WWMT makes/uses).

Other good Source Resources

  • TopHATTwaffle - Great set of tutorials on various random aspects about mapping for Source.
